[Day 1] How 13 people in totally different markets built hugely successful WordPress sites

WordPress.com

Hi kzhunadia170zdthxzdfth,

Welcome to the WordPress.com family!

This email is the first issue in a series of emails I'm going to send you over the next several days.

Each issue will include a little insider gem or two to help you build your website.

Think of me like Alfred in one of those Batman movies (and you're Bruce Wayne). It's my goal to anticipate your needs, and to give you the perfect tip at just the moment you need it.

Which brings me to today's email and the first gem.

Since you're just getting started... and maybe feeling a little overwhelmed... I thought a healthy dose of inspiration could help.

Inspiration in the form of real life WordPress.com customer success stories.

You'll see first-hand how a writer, a salon owner, and a not-for-profit organization have all used WordPress.com to connect with their audiences, attract more viewers, and build their businesses.

Last year we flew around the country with a small camera crew to interview these remarkable people face to face.

Let me highlight five of my favorite stories (the videos are all pretty short, so you can watch them all in a single sitting):

  • Hilde Lysiak started her town's only newspaper when she was 8 years old. Her site started as a fun weekend project and grew into an important community hub.
  • Melissa and Annette Roche found inspiration in their mother's African braid salon to build a thriving salon of their own in New York City.
  • Kate Christensen couldn't find an online space to connect with other women who love craft beer — so she created it.
  • Gillian Whitcombe, co‑founder of The Sewcialists, wanted to build an online community where sewing enthusiasts everywhere would feel welcome.
  • Thaleon Tremain co‑founded Pachamama Coffee so growers could connect directly with customers in the U.S.

We captured 13 stories in all, and you can explore the rest of them here.

Go ahead, click the links above to check out these stories, but be sure to come back here when you're finished.

Like these WordPress.com customers, we know you have an important story to tell, too.

To unlock the full power of WordPress.com so that you can start building your site (and story) without limits, I recommend upgrading your site to one of our paid plans.

And don't worry, if you try it out and change your mind you can always get a full refund on your plan upgrade within 30 days.

P.S.: Did you notice that very few of those customer stories featured blogs? I did that to highlight an important point.

WordPress started as a blogging platform 15 years ago. And it's still far-and-away the world's best blogging tool.

But you should know that it has grown to be much, much more.

In fact, the latest data shows that WordPress now powers more than 32% of the top 10,000,000 websites. 32%!

If you're planning on starting a blog, you can still do that. But rest assured: no matter what kind of site or business you want to build, WordPress is the perfect platform to make it happen.
